Lee Klein, founder and president of The California
Native, and Ellen Gordon, California Native international representative,
were married on top of 8,214 foot Mount Williamson in the Angeles National
Forest, after a brief courtship of seven years. The couple were clad
in hiking shorts and boots with Ellen wearing a veiled bridal ball cap
and Lee a handsome top hat.
A native-born Californian, Lee is a marathon runner and hiker, who has
spent a large portion of his life traveling, beginning with his service
in the U.S. Navy, then roaming the world on his own—living in temples
in India, hitchhiking across the deserts of Iraq and Iran, and working
passage on a banana boat in the Persian Gulf. He is also an MBA who spent
two decades as a corporate manager and college professor. In 1983, while
climbing Ayer’s Rock in Australia’s outback, he decided to
leave the corporate world, returning to California to found The California
Native.
Ellen is a marathon race-walker, hiker and traveler who immigrated to
California 15 years ago from her native village of Philadelphia. She
has worked in education, theater, hotels and corporate management. In
addition to her work with The California Native, she is currently developing
a web business offering healthy foods (www.wholegrainkitchen.com), and
working on web site projects for a theatrical fabric and drapery company
(www.rosebrand.com).
